For years Queens' students have sponsored a Soul Food Shabbat bringing together the Queens Black Student Union and Queens Hillel for a celebration of Shabbat and an exploration of commonalities as we explore our past and present struggles. Last year, we opened the experience up to the broader Charlotte community and it was a sold-out event and a resounding success. We will serve a soul food Shabbat dinner with tradition Jewish and African American foods - challah (traditional Shabbath bread), collared greens, cornbread, fried chicken, kugel (sweet noodle casserole), and rugelach (a Jewish pastry). Short segments of the film Shared Legacies will be viewed, and we will engage in table conversations with students, staff, faculty, and members of the broader Charlotte community.

To watch Shared Legacies Documentary, join us on Monday night, February 12 at 7:00 pm at Johnson C. Smith University.
